Ryan | 6.30.05A Snapshot and a Look Ahead
Since we are not yet living in Indianapolis, where our assignment is, many people ask us what we do all day. Although it varies from day to day, what we do with our time consists mostly of the same responsibilities.
First of all, we spend as much time as we can on raising our support. This includes phone calls, appointments, and the various letters and emails we send out. This is our primary responsibility, and some weeks we are overwhelmed with the workload, and others we long for more.
We both work part-time jobs, mostly to cover our financial responsibilities. Ryan works two days a week, while I will occasionally work a night shift a couple times a month. This enables both of us to continue using our professional skills as well as just be around different people and environments.
In February, Ryan and I joined a small group with the church we are attending in our area. This has been a wonderful part of our lives, both as individuals and as a couple. We have a group of friends that we can turn to for companionship, prayer, and accountability. This also prepares us, as young adults, for future involvement in our local churches.
When we have time, Ryan and I have a two-year curriculum for new staff that we should complete within our first two years on staff. Most of this will be done when we get to campus, because it includes training on leadership, discipleship, evangelism, and other basics of campus ministry. However, there is a lot that we can work on now. We have been reading godly books and studying Scripture to prepare our own lives for full-time ministry. This has been an enriching and challenging part of staff life.
Finally, since we currently live so close to both of our families, we attempt to spend extra time with them both. We will be moving 4 hours away, so it is nice to see our parents a lot right now. It means a lot to all of us.
As we look ahead, in three weeks we will be in Colorado, for the National Staff Conference. This happens every two years. This will include several days of focusing on the campus ministry, as well as time spent learning about what is happening with Campus Crusade around the world, and being challenged and trained by some of the leaders of Campus Crusade, as well as other top Christian leaders.
Ryan and I look forward to seeing some of our friends, from all over the country, and having the opportunity to spend some time with them. We are also looking forward to the encouragement and the excitement that is inevitable when you are around 5,000 staff members. Finally, we are anticipating a time of great renewal and challenge. We will certainly have a lot to share when we come home.
Without you, these opportunities would not be available to us. You have made it possible for us to be involved with something so much bigger than ourselves: fulfilling the Great Commission. We are living with heightened anticipation to see what God may choose to do through us and we know that He chose to work through you to get us there. Thank you so much for your support and your prayers.
In HIM,
Please Pray
> That Rachel and I would be diligent with our time spent communicating with individuals as well as our responsibilities in our training.
> If it is in God’s will, that we would be able to finish our support this summer and join our teams in Indianapolis this fall.
> For our hearts as we attend the National Staff Conference, that we would be renewed and we would continue to trust God for his provision in our lives.
