April06 :: the Gospel and mass communication
Ryan | 4.1.06One of the oldest forms of communication is print medium. For over a hundred years our lives have revolved around it, and it is virtually impossible to go throughout your day without being affected by some form of it. Although print has made its place in our world, today there is another form of communication competing for the spotlight.
Although it is only thirty years old, digital communication has already won a large corner of the communications industry. For instance, in the twenty-first century, the computer and the growing technology in communication will reach the impact of what the Industrial Revolution was to those in the nineteenth century. I believe that we have just scratched the surface of what technology will bring to us in the future.
Not only has the Internet changed our world, but now we can add Blogging and Podcasting to the mass of information that is contained on the World Wide Web. The Internet provided anything you wanted on any topic at the click of a button, but now people’s personal lives and opinions are available via Blogs and Podcasts, without charge and with minimal effort. As Evangelical Christians, we can use this to our advantage. If Grandma Sally can share her recipes with the world, we can certainly share the Gospel.
With multiple forms of communication available for us to use, there is little difficulty having the Gospel readily available. CCC, among other organizations, takes advantage of that. Our website www.EveryStudent.com presents the Gospel clearly, through apologetics, testimonies and multimedia presentations.
We have found that 1% of visitors to the site indicate decisions for Christ and with over 500,000 visitors every month, that amounts to 5000 first time decisions and rededications every month! Our biggest obstacle is letting people know where and what this website, and many more like it are. This is something I hope to help overcome.
These new technologies allow us to reach more people in more ways, where they are. When I start my work with the Regional team, I will be using my design skills to maximize our contact with others in order to meet the needs of those seeking truth.
I will also be working on brochures and content for conferences in the Great Lakes Region to help staff and students connect with each other and with the Lord on new levels.
Lastly, I will be updating the website and giving it a much needed lift. The Regional Ops team exists to help the staff on campus be more effective in ministry. This is something that the regional website should accomplish as well. The website needs to be a place where staff and students can get resources on the latest news and ideas developed for ministry.
I look forward to using my skills and enthusiasm for new technology to partner with other staff for the common goal of turning lost students into Christ centered laborers.
The Davinci Code is shaking evangelical and cultural circles and has been since the book came out. As the Hollywood movie comes to the theater, it has sparked a new interest and controversy over the book. CCC has tried to take advantage of other oportunities where culture and religion clash. The Davinci Code is no different. CCC has developed a small magazine as a Companion Guide to the Davinci Code. The magazine answers many of the biblical themes that the book and movie discuss and also has a Q&A with Josh McDowell about the Davinci Code. Josh has written a book “A Quest for Answers - the Davinci Code” which is also referenced in the Companion Guide.
If you would like to see a sample of the Companion Guide magazine, you can download it from our website.
