the ministry of Ryan and Rachel Strandt with Campus Crusade for Christ

May 09 :: Our Part in International Ministry

When I was involved in Campus Crusade for Christ in college, I was looking for ways to use the gifts that the Lord has given me for ministry. While I was at NIU, I did this as a student leader on campus. After school, the Lord called me and Rachel onto staff with CCC, to use my gifts to support the staff that are on campus.

Some students, when approaching graduation, are not sure about full time ministry. Sometimes the Lord has called them to commit a year or two of their lives to ministry – which is why Campus Crusade offers internships. Every year, about 150-200 students, mostly recent graduates, in the Great Lakes apply to do an Internship with CCC for one or two years. This number is equal to the number of full time staff in other regions.

120 Stinters and Interns from this past year
13 Partnership locations around the world

The Lord uses these Interns every year, whether their assignment is here on local campuses or overseas at our partnership locations, to do great things and continue ministry in these locations. Sometimes they are the group that pioneers new places! We send students to many of our 25 regional campus locations as well as our 13 International Partnership locations. Our “Sending Team” in the regional office spends the year working with these interns. Every spring we have a new group of interns whom the Lord has called to join us in ministry for a year of their lives. We want to foster and care for these young men and women well as they follow God’s call.

IKW (intern Kickoff Weekend) is a place where Interns get the majority of training and instruction of what it means to commit their year walking closely with the Lord and to do ministry (sometimes in a foriegn country). I work to help the Sending Team with their processes and help keep these students connected and keep communication open for local and overseas conversations to happen on a daily basis.

The application process is not an easy one either. Not every student who applies to do an internship with CCC is accepted. Each student is evaluated based on their spiritual leadership and their walks with the Lord, among other qualifying factors. This past semester, Rachel has evaluated 9 applications, to determine whether or not these women were qualified to be spiritual leaders and to decide if going overseas is the best for them.

Evaluating applications has been a great fit for Rachel’s skills. It plays into her organizational and administrative skills, takes advantage of her experience on campus and distance coaching/discipleship of student leaders, and even uses a small part of her experience as a nurse, documenting her phone calls and assessment of these students. Not only does it complement her skill set, but it is a responsibility that she can do from home, while Braden naps or plays, and she can invest in these future interns while still being available to care for our children.

After Rachel gets an application and reads through it, she decides on what the areas that need to be developed are in that applicant. She then calls the applicant, most often a graduating senior, and talks with them further about these areas, asking them in-depth questions, offering guidance on these areas, and encouraging them in their strengths.

Even though we work in Indianapolis, it is fun to use our gifts and to be a part of reaching students all over the world. Whether I am using my technological gifts to facilitate communication between the Sending Team and their interns and STINTers, or Rachel is investing in seeing qualified graduates out there on the field, we are a part of expanding God’s Kingdom all around the world. And we wouldn’t be able to do that if it weren’t for people like you, praying for us and giving sacrificially to the Lord. Thank you!

Please Pray

> For these stinters and interns to raise the support needed for their year on staff and that they would continue to trust God, finding joy following their calling and working for His Kingdom.

> As we prepare for our summer project this summer. Ryan will be leading the Crossroads project in Indianapolis again.

> For Boy #2 still growing and coming in September.
