This past August, Dan moved into his dorm room. As a college freshman, he had been bombarded with a plethora of postcards and various flyers from campus organizations. He picks up his smartphone and starts looking at the different groups online.
Now this great cru ministries website has not been updated since 2005 but, if I were a student at this university, I would deduce that there probably was not much going on with cru at oklahoma university. This would most likely not motivate him to check out this group.
Although this is a made up story, this is true in the business world as well. Very few companies can get away with websites that are not maintained well or even just look bad. How frustrating it is to need information or to accomplish a task online and the site’s design makes it more difficult and time consuming. How do you react? Does this detract from what the company has to offer? Even more so if you are not familiar with that particular company.
A couple years ago, we shared with you the opportunity Ryan had to redesign the websites of the campuses throughout the region. He moved them to the regional webserver and made them easy to update, as well as improved their designs. He has spent countless hours on the phone, training our staff to edit and update their sites.
In February of 2011, we shared a story about a grad student who came across the website, attended an Investigative Bible Study and put his faith in Christ.
Until recently, our region, one of ten across the country, is the only one with this system in place. Two other regions have started this process and have asked Ryan for assistance. In January of this year, the national leadership team made providing websites, that are easy to create and maintain for every campus, a priority. The national operations director asked Ryan to lead this massive project.
Things have been going well and the hope is that by January 2013, every campus across the country will have the ability to create a website that is stored on the national webserver. Our prayer is that in August, when the millions of college freshmen arrive on campus, there will be an updated and attractive website providing all that they need to know to check out Cru on their campus. And our ultimate goal is that their lives will be transformed through Christ.
